What is Full Spectrum Light?

Lighting info brought to you by LightingShowroom.com

All of us know that light is white, at least the light that comes from the sun. We have also studied how putting a prism in the path of sunlight will split it into its component colors. Thus the white light we see is actually based on a number of different colored light all combined into one.Full Spectrum Light

What most of us do not know is that light as such is an electromagnetic radiation, and therefore has a wavelength. Depending on how large this wavelength is the color of the light differs. Thus red light is light in the range of 1500 to 2000 ºK while dark blue to purple light is about 8000 ºK. White light is around 4000 to 4200 ºK.

The ºK is there because the radiation is measured in temperature, and when it comes to light it is called color temperature. So if we take any light bulb, if we’re interested enough we can find out what the color temperature is for the light that it emits.

For example a low pressure sodium vapor lamp emits light around the 2700 ºK mark, while a high pressure sodium vapor lamp emits light up to 6000 ºK. Even here the color rendering is not constant because there are large gaps in-between in the radiation.

Fluorescent light on the other hand gives better color rendering and although we can see only white light, the light is available between 2700 and 6000 ºK for the warm white ones and between 4000 and 8000 ºK for the cool white ones.

Xenon lights are the best when it comes to color rendering and give out a full spectrum light which means that the light that it emits encompasses the full range of the visible and invisible spectrum. Of course it is still not equal to the sun. It is however the closest in terms of artificial light to the sun.

Getting full spectrum light is not easy artificially. Nowadays LED’s are used because it is possible to combine a number of different colors to obtain the color spectrum that is wanted. With the pace of advancements in lighting technology however the day when we are able to mimic the sun and get full spectrum light is not far.

What Exactly is Energy Conservation?

Lighting info brought to you by LightingShowroom.com

The term conservation, especially when it is included with the term energy has become very common fare for this generation. Children who may not know the intricacies of the weather patterns, or how important maintaining the correct temperature is for us as a species are nonetheless aware of global warming, and that they are supposed to conserve as much energy as Energy Conservationpossible. Many of us actually try. We pay more for a more fuel efficient car, and even if the performance is not good, we opt for a hybrid or an electric car.

We try to remember to switch off the light when we leave a room, and try to install energy star rated appliances because they are more efficient. We talk about how this is what everyone should be doing, and try to convert others too. Every little bit helps.

While it is true that little drops of water do make the mighty ocean, but however commendable this is when you consider the carbon footprint that each of us have, you will realize that this is as nothing to what we should be doing. An average American has 20 times the carbon footprint of a person living in Africa, and 8 times that of an Asian. Even the Europeans are better than us in that their carbon footprint per person is only about half that of us.

Just doing what we have been doing is just not enough. For example if we cut down on our fuel bills by going with more efficient vehicles you would hardly be reducing 1% of your carbon footprint.

Going with energy star appliances are similar. The reason for this is that we tend to have more electrical gadgets than we need. And we don’t think beforehand what is sufficient and what we don’t need. For example most of us go with central HVAC units and these add up to 6% of our carbon footprint in just the wasted heating or cooling. If we are staying in one room, this is the cost to the environment for ensuring that the rest of the home too is kept at the same temperature. Just by installing individual units for each room, you can reduce so much, but how many of us really want to do this.

We would rather try scraping a few 0.001% from something that is already performing at optimum efficiency than give up even a little bit of our comfort. Imagine that if you are constructing your home, going the extra mile and putting in good insulation will ensure that you don’t even have to have such a large HVAC system. And none of this is going to cost you more either.

Energy conservation is more something in the mind, rather than in what we do. If we change our mindset to start thinking that we really should do something about helping the environment, instead of doing something that will give us brownie points, we will very soon find that we’re doing quite a bit, and that others will be getting influenced just by looking at us.

Bathroom Accessories

Lighting info brought to you by LightingShowroom.com

Well there’s nobody else other than you who can answer the question…Are Bathroom Accessories Needed? It’s like asking if designer clothes are really needed. All of us know that there are certain things that are the basics of what we need. When it comes to a bathroom too we all know the minimum that we expect of any bathroom.Bathroom Accessories

Yet most of the time we have things that are not really needed, and what’s more, we know it too. We’ve long crossed the stage where we are just satisfied with the bare minimum and most of us want more. We want our homes to look nice, and our bathrooms are part of our home too.

By accessories we do not mean having a bathroom like what you see in magazines. Just simple things will go a long way towards making our bathrooms look very nice.

For example, all of us have tooth brush holders, soap dishes, shampoo containers etc, but how many of us go to the trouble of buying them as a set. Just going in for a complete set, one that integrates well with the color theme in your bathroom will make a world of difference.

All of us have towel and clothes racks in the bathroom, but how many of us go to the trouble of getting a nice one. The difference between a plastic and a chrome plated one is about $10 or so and you’re only going to be buying one of them so this cost savings really does not mean anything.

Most of us go with a medicine cabinet because we get both a mirror and a closed cabinet together. Not that this is a bad idea, but just imagine how the whole thing will look if you got a medicine cabinet that came with small LED lights around the frame of the mirror.

All of us have bathroom mats, so just ensuring that you choose the right color for your bathroom makes a big difference. Not only that you can even go with patterns or cartoon figures if you want to, and it tends to liven the whole place up considerably.

These are just a few ideas, and none of them call for too much expense either. You don’t have to change anything in your bathroom. Just the fact that you’ve spent half an hour thinking about what you want will make the difference. And in the event you are going to buy something that is a sort of one-time expense, make sure that you get something that blends in with the existing décor in your bathroom. Just go online to know what your options are, and if you are ok you can even purchase online which means that you save quite a bit there too.

Everything There Is To Know About LED Lights

Lighting info brought to you by LightingShowroom.com

LED lights are the latest in lighting technology, and they look like in a very short time they are going to replace most other conventional lighting systems as the preferred choice of lighting. Yet the LED or Light Emitting Diode technology as such is not new.

LED LightsThe basis for the LED was discovered in 1907 and the practical use of this technology was started as early as 1967 itself. The only problem was that the technology was very expensive. It was only after the 70's that they started to be manufactured in sufficient numbers and at a cheap enough prices for it to be widely adopted.

Even then LED’s did not catch the fancy of the public until only about a decade back, and now they have become one of the most popular lights to be used for certain purposes. For example LED’s were used more than half a decade ago to provide lighting for such devices like calculators and digital watches.

One of the biggest reasons for them not being used as lighting systems as such was because until very recently the amount of light produced was very low. This meant that they were only useful for such purposes as indicator lights in electronic appliances, and were used for this purpose since the beginning.

In order to understand how an LED light works, it is important that we understand the concept of electroluminescence. Electroluminescence is the term that is used to describe the property of a material to emit light (luminescence) when electricity is applied to it.

The actual way this happens in an LED is highly technical, but suffice it to say that instead of a filament that emits light, they use other materials that are not only more efficient than the usual tungsten filaments, but also emit different colors depending on the material used.

As of now, commercially, you get Red, Blue and Green, while other colors are a combination of the different colors. For example by mixing the three different colors it is possible to get a yellow or a white light. White however is generally not produced like this.

Most manufacturers use the same system as the CFL bulbs where a phosphorescent layer is painted on the external surface of the casing, which converts light of other colors to white.

The outer surface of these LED’s is not made of glass like other bulbs. They are made of an epoxy or some other material that is both transparent as well as very strong and can take quite a bit of abuse. In fact many remote control manufacturers use LED’s that emit infra-red light in their remotes, and as everyone knows, these things can take a lot of abuse and still function.

The biggest problem with an LED is that they do not emit much light. They have very low luminosity and surprisingly, they become more inefficient as the current increases. Thus by increasing the strength of the current you will get less output than if you use lower current.

Over the years however advancements have been made to such an extent that they are able to emit more light now, and you get LED’s that can be used in torches, bulbs, and even as automobile headlamps.

As of now these kinds of LED’s are very expensive. Another problem with LED’s is that when the output increases the heat released is so high that the electroluminescent material is damaged within just a few seconds. Most manufacturers who make such high output LED’s therefore ensure that they have an aluminum heat sink to dissipate this heat. Combined with the high cost, these lamps are as of now very niche products. Yet the average manufacturer of LED’s has found a way around for this too.

For example there are LED bulbs that are composed of a number of low wattage LED’s jammed together into the same case thus giving a high total output. These lamps are very cheap, and last a very long time too. The only difficulty is that there is a physical limit to the number of LED’s that can be jammed together into a certain area which means that above a certain output the size of the bulbs are just too large.

You get a number of such LED lights for homes. Of course the output will not be very high, but for those instances where low output light is needed they are very suitable. Plus you can get the color that you want in the bulb itself instead of using a color filter which will reduce the output even more. The advantages are that they are not too much more expensive than the incandescent bulbs, and last you a lifetime.

Then comes the better quality of LED home lighting. These lights are specifically made by manufacturers for home lights and are composed of LED clusters too. Each LED however has a much higher output than the previous ones which means that they can actually replace normal lights in your home.

The number of LED’s that you get in each bulb depends on the output that you want, and you get bulbs that look like traditional bulbs with a glass casing, and you also get ones that do not have any casing and where the LED’s inside are left open.

You get a number of different designs in both the bulbs and the fixtures. For instance starting from the Edison screw type of fixture to the bayonet socket and the GU series, you get any kind of bulbs that you want. In fact starting 2010 you even get tube lights and flash bulbs for flashes in cameras using LED lights.

The only problem with these lights is their cost. As of now they cost anywhere above $30 which is just too much for a home lighting system. When you factor in the fact that these lamps are expected to last for at least 25 years of operation, when a normal incandescent lamp will only last you an average of 750 hrs., it may be cost effective in the long run but nobody wants to pay so much for a light for the home.

LED lamps for home are however catching on because their prices have been falling steadily over the past couple of years, and they are becoming more and more easy to come by. Then comes the money that you save over the lifetime of the product in terms of electricity cost (one 13 watt LED is as powerful as a 100 watt incandescent bulb) and more and more people are opting to go with LED’s.

For outdoor lighting, LED’s have taken over so fast that the other lighting systems are wondering what hit them. As of now it is only the gas vapor lamps that are still holding out simply because they are very efficient as it is, and although LED’s are even more efficient, as of now they do not make economic sense.

Yet these gas vapor lamps are only used in certain cases like in street lamps etc, and are a niche product anyway. As of now most stop traffic lights are LED’s and most shop signs are switching over fast. The reason for this is not hard to see. Any place where lower electricity consumption is imperative will be the first place to switch over, and most commercial centers appreciate anything that will reduce their power consumption.

When it comes to traffic signals, governments really appreciate the fact that LED’s do not have to be replaced for decades. Although the same goes for street lamps too, as of now there are no large scale replacements going on. The understanding is that as the current ones expire, LED’s can replace them.

There are however other LED outdoor lighting systems too. For instance you get LED landscape lighting and other kinds of LED outside lights. Although these lights are also as expensive, they are catching on very quickly for the same reason as above, economy of operation.

As of now most outdoor lighting is usually incandescent and power costs are only going up. People who like driveway lights, perimeter lights etc. will be shelling out quite a bit just in power costs alone.

Nowadays not only do you get LED lights that are quite effective, you get solar powered ones which means that you can pretty much install them wherever you want to without having to worry about wiring for them.

And they are not too expensive either. You get very good solar powered outside lights starting at around $30 and the number of designs that you can choose from is innumerable. For this price you get any type of outdoor light you want, including the polard kinds, a solar receiver on top with a battery inside that will power the light for between 8 and 12 hrs. All it requires is that you install them at a place where they get between 4 and 6 hrs of sunlight a day.

If you pay a little more you even get the remote lights, in the sense that you have one solar collection plate which is then connected to the other lights via wires. The advantage of this is that you can keep the light in shade while the collection plate will be kept in sunlight. For landscape lights these are very useful. Even outdoor highlight lights are available in this fashion, and the lights are powerful enough that they are actually comparable to halogen lamps.

As already mentioned, it is usually the cost that puts most people off, but in this case at least, most normal outdoor lights too will cost the same if you include the cost of the wiring etc. These lights are therefore very good value for money.

While earlier replacing LED’s were a difficult chore, nowadays you get different types of LED’s. Starting from e27 led, gu10 led bulbs, mr16 led bulbs and g4 led bulbs you get any type you want. This means that you can pretty much opt to change them just as you would any old light bulb in your home.

In fact LED’s are the future and the pace at which they are getting accepted is phenomenal. Lights that were prohibitively expensive just a couple of years back are not only really cheap now, they are even cheaper than normal lights. It is only a matter of time before the whole world changes to LED’s and if you are thinking of moving from incandescent to CFL bulbs, you may be well advised to go in for LED’s now because they cost you less and give you more savings.

In these contemporary times, it has become possible to grow a plant without ever exposing it to the sun. During winter when one hardly ever sees a ray of natural light, bulbs that can replace the sun can be of great help. Though it’s often depicted as yellow in most paintings and portraits, the sun actually emits a blue light that makes a plant grow through the process of LED Grow Lightsphotosynthesis. Right before spring, the seeds can already be grown so that they will surely blossom beautifully. The leaves engage in a chemical process after the rays of light come in contact with them. Red-orange light is useful for the latter stages of plant growth. All of the colors needed by plants should be provided to make them grow well.

Plants can also grow to their most beautiful when exposed to the kind of light given off by LED grow lights. The greenhouse effect of a good environment can be achieved by using them indoors as sources of light for plants. Under harsh lighting like very strong sunlight, plants could shrivel up and die because of lack of water. With the LED light systems, watering can be done minimally because the lighting don’t dry up the soil excessively.

In order to simulate the natural occurrence of light and darkness, some variations are now equipped with timers to ensure the plants are provided with all they need in order to grow. The switches can also be installed as an additional feature to the horticultural system. Plants need to be left in the dark for some time in order to use the chemicals processed after being exposed to light. For instance, flowering plants need about 12 to 16 hours of light each day. Generally, all plants should stay devoid of light for 8 hours.

In using LED lights, one should not have to worry about its effects on the room temperature because they don’t produce enough heat to do that. They last more than five times the normal bulb. Because they do not need to light up a huge area, they are also very energy-efficient unlike incandescent varieties that seem to be cheaper but devour much more energy in the long run.

Many have already opted to make use of LED grow lights for their plants at home. Those who have a fondness for salad can grow their organic lettuce and tomatoes in their very own backyards or even in pots using these bulbs.

Green is the color of this century. The world is awash with millions of concerns about the continuous degradation of forests and the melting of ice glaciers north and south. As the rapid erasure of many species from coast to coast is brought on by lack of good food sources, there is a growing need for greener ideas. As we cultivate a longing for the earth’s survival, growing a bunch of carbon dioxide-emitting vines might help in reminding us of how fulfilling it is to take care of the environment.

Nowadays, many people suffer from various types of diseases due to a number of reasons. One of them is caused by eating vegetables or fruits, which have chemical contents.

Non-organic farmers usually use pesticides and other chemical compounds for growing their vegetables and fruits. The residues of these chemicals are transferred into your blood stream when you eat the vegetables or fruits. As a result, you are prone to different types of diseases especially when you grow much older.

Not surprisingly, many people are turning to organic fruits and vegetables as part of their daily diet. Organic farming hardly uses any pesticide for growing vegetables and fruits. However, organic produce is more expensive compared to non-organic farming produce.

So, if you want to save money and eat healthy fruits and vegetables at the same time, consider the option to grow your own vegetables and fruits. Due to the invention of the LED grow light, it is indeed possible to cultivate your own vegetables or fruits indoors. You do not have to set aside a special patch of land for gardening.

Grow lights are actually electric lamps. However, there is a special twist to them. They are made especially for growing indoor plants. Such a light lets out an electromagnetic spectrum, just like natural sunlight. Plants make use of this emission for the process of photosynthesis. Without this process, a plant cannot survive long.

Photosynthesis enables a plant to breathe for survival. This process also enables a plant to synthesize sugar and other components for its usage. A plant uses the carbon dioxide in the air to breathe and lets out oxygen as an emission. By keeping a plant indoors, there is less carbon dioxide and more oxygen, which benefits you and your family.

Human beings breathe in oxygen and let out carbon dioxide. Hence, keeping plants indoors balances these natural processes and helps you and your family to lead a healthier life. Nowadays, you can find high-intensity discharge or HID, fluorescents and LED or light-emitting diode lamp, which are used to make grow lights. However, in comparison to the other types of lighting, a LED grow light is less expensive, much brighter and can last for a longer period.

Furthermore, this type of light does not use up much power. If you compare it to a HID lamp, you may note that it uses only a small amount of heat. Since it generates less heat, there is no necessity for you to water the plants at short intervals, as in the case of a HID lamp. This is because plants can conserve more water with less transpiration, which occurs if there is more heat.

To put it briefly, a grow light, which uses LED, is cheaper, brighter and more durable compared to other types of grow lights. With such a light, you can grow plants indoors with ease. Other than a chance to enjoy healthy food, you can also benefit in terms of health by breathing in air, which contains more oxygen.

What is DLP Television?

Lighting info brought to you by LightingShowroom.com

DLP is the acronym for Digital Light Processing television, and was invented by Texas Instruments in 1987. The technology as such is very simple, and is a carry forward of the CRT televisions that were in use till then.DLP Television

In a DLP television, light passes through a rotating wheel that has the three primary colors, red, green and blue. This light is then reflected off a mirror on to a DMD (Digital Micromirror Device) which is basically a device that has a number of small mirrors in it. Each of these mirrors will represent one pixel on the projected image, although very often the DMD will have only half as many mirrors as the pixels due to a feature called wobulation.

Each of the mirrors on the DMD can be positioned very rapidly so that this light can be reflected into a lens that blows up the image, or on to a “light dump” that absorbs the light. By toggling the direction in which these mirrors face, greyscales can be produced depending on the ratio of light reflected into the lens to the ratio of light directed to the light dump.

The DLP system gives much better color rendering than other systems and are actually a direct competition to other newer technologies like the TFT and plasma screen televisions. In fact earlier the DLP system used to have only around one revolution of the color wheel per second. Nowadays you get up to 10 revolutions per second and sometimes more than one wheel which allow the manufacturer to combine two different colors to get a wider range of colors than possible earlier.

The biggest problem with the DLP system is that the light source has to be from a metal halide lamp, and these are very expensive. Metal halide lamps last an average of around 20,000 hrs., but the lamps in the DLP television last much less than this. Most DLP televisions have an end of life light that intimates to the user that the lamp has reached the end of its life.

Usually this happens between 5 and 7 yrs. after the television has been purchased depending on the usage. A new bulb also costs in the region of $300 making them very expensive. The newer DLP televisions however have LED’s inside. The LED DLP televisions use LED’s as their light source which simplifies matters considerably.

This is because LED’s come in red, green and blue, which means that you don’t have to have the spinning color wheel. Not only this, but the life of LED’s is much longer too with some people estimating that they will last 25 to 30 yrs. This also removes the extra expense that you will have of replacing the bulb.

As of now the only problem with LED DLP TV is their price and the fact that they are not widely manufactured. Only a couple of manufacturers use LED technology, and until they become more mainstream, their price is sure to remain high. They are however gaining acceptance very fast and the time is not too long in the future where they will become affordable to the vast majority of us.

Bilirubin Lights

Lighting info brought to you by LightingShowroom.com

Bilirubin is a substance that is secreted by the liver when there is high concentration of Red Blood cells in the body. Bilirubin is a pigment that gives out a yellow tinge on the skin and the Bilirubin Lightswhites of the eye. This is very common in patients suffering from jaundice as well as children with neonatal jaundice.

Neonatal jaundice is very common among premature babies and newborns all over the world. While this condition is not serious, if left untreated, it can cause severe eye, hearing as well as brain damage. This is why infants are all checked for jaundice before they discharge them home.

Bilirubin lights are blue lights at 420 to 470 nm. These help the bilirubin to get excreted in the urine and excreta. A baby with jaundice is typically placed under the blue light, wearing nothing but a small diaper.  This light needs to penetrate the skin for it to work. Prolonged use of these lights may cause retinal atrophy, which is why glasses are used to protect the baby’s eye from damage.

Most hospitals will check for neonatal jaundice before they allow you to take your baby home. If they do find out that your baby may be suffering from jaundice, they will most probably put him through this blue light therapy called photo therapy.

In addition, they will keep monitoring your baby’s RBC levels and only permit you to take him home once he is okay. On the other hand, if your baby’s Bilirubin levels do not come down, they will do something known as Exchange transfusion, which is taking out blood and replacing it with blood without Bilirubin. However, this is only done in very severe cases.

You can treat Jaundice at home, the Bili lights can either be bought or loaned through agencies associated with the hospital, or the hospital themselves. They will usually guide you on how to use it and how to monitor your baby as well as when you will need to let the professionals take over. This is great for some parents who hate to see their little one in the cold environments of a hospital.

Of What Use Are Outdoor Curtains

Lighting info brought to you by LightingShowroom.com

Not many people use curtains for the outside of their homes. To most people curtains are for the inside, and however innovatively they use curtains inside the homes, very rarely are they considered for the outside.Outdoor Curtains

Most of the time outdoor curtains are used only by hotels and other such places to give a totally different feel to a suite or cottage. Yet when they are used in our homes we can recreate the same feel there too.

For example take outdoor patio curtains. Patios are traditionally left open. Many times it will even have a roof, to keep the rain out, but no walls. There’s really no need for one, the understanding being that if they wanted anything more, they would build a room.

However have you ever considered how your patio will look with curtains on them. For example, you could install flimsy, white lace curtains and gather them near every pillar in your patio, and you’ve just brought some color into your plain patio. You don’t have to do anything more than just put up the curtains and tie them with a ribbon of the color of your choice to the pillar, and your home has just gotten a patio that will make it look like a Spanish hacienda.

You could even install full-fledged outdoor curtains for the patio if you live in a place where you get a lot of rain, or if the wind is very violent. However nice it is to have an outdoor patio, many a time you would appreciate a nook where you can sit out of the wind and a curtain is as good a way of providing this as any.

The kind of curtains you put up in your patio depends on you. For example, you could go with synthetic material if you feel that maintenance will be an issue although they really do not look or feel nice. You also need to get heavy material if you do not want the curtains flapping in the breeze. In the same way that curtains are used as space separators inside the home, they can also be used outside for the same reason. Having the curtains open will give a feeling of spaciousness, but drawing them will suddenly convert the same spacious patio, into a lovers nest that is warm and cozy.

Nursery Decorating Ideas and Options

Lighting info brought to you by LightingShowroom.com

Most of us parents tend to put our heart, soul, sweat and money into making our child’s nursery the best that we possibly can. While pink for girls and blue for boys have become standardized clichés, children of both genders love bright colors that make them happy. So while some standards do remain, it is important to understand that when it comes to Nursery Decorating Ideasnursery decorating ideas, you can certainly go with what you feel looks and feels best for your child.

With that being said, let’s take a look at what furnishings, lighting you will need for your nursery as well as decorating ideas for boys and girls.

A nursery should have some basic necessities such as a crib for the baby to sleep in, a changing table which will help a mother change her little one with ease, a chest of drawers to keep all the little one’s clothes, lotions and other necessities.

Nursery lighting is another necessity which is often overlooked when putting things together for a nursery. A nursery needs lights that are neither too dim nor are so bright that they will tend to make a newborn uncomfortable. Also, it is important to have some sort of night light option to be able to avoid unnecessary accidents when moving around at night.

While these are mandatory, there are some which are not, nonetheless will help make a parent’s life much easier. A rocking chair is one of them; this can be a godsend for most new mother who tends to be up most of the night nursing their little one.

When it comes to nursery decorating ideas, nursery ideas for girls are not that different when compared with boy nursery ideas, except when it comes to color. For instance a huge basket filled with stuffed toys will look good in both a girl as well as a boy’s nursery. All you need to do is go for blue or brown for a boy and pink or white for a girl and you got a simple yet beautiful nursery decorating idea. Some paintings of children’s characteristics on the wall, a child’s rug and a few toys are all you will need to complete a child’s nursery.

What is the Electromagnetic Spectrum?

Lighting info brought to you by LightingShowroom.com

There are a number of different kinds of radiation with electromagnetic radiation being one of them. It is called electromagnetic radiation because it has both an electrical as well as a magnetic component. The sun is the largest emitter of electromagnetic particles that is close to the Earth.Electromagnetic Spectrum

These particles all have a frequency or wavelength, and they are classified based on the wavelength. Thus the lower end of the scale has the Radio waves, while the upper end has gamma rays.

There are particles that have a bigger wavelength even than radio waves with wavelengths that can cover hundreds of kilometers. These waves however are not useful to us which is why they do not have any name. Radio waves are those that have a wavelength till about 1 mm. At the lower end they can have a wavelength of hundreds of meters. They are useful to us, especially for communication purposes because they have good penetrating capabilities, and can also carry data. Radio, wireless, mobile phones and even TV all use radio waves.

Microwaves are electromagnetic particles that overlap with radio waves in terms of wavelength. They form the upper end of the radio waves spectrum and are close to the 1 mm wavelength. They are very useful to us because at this wavelength the waves have a tendency to heat materials. Even radio waves have the same capacity, albeit to a lesser degree which is why mobile headsets tend to get hot after some time of use.

Infra-red waves are the ones that are very close to the visible spectrum on the lower end of the visible scale. They are waves that have a wavelength of between 1 mm and 1000 nm.

The visible spectrum actually makes up a tiny portion of the entire electromagnetic spectrum. The sun however emits the greatest portion of its radiation in this portion. The visible spectrum makes up waves that have a wavelength of between 8000 nm and 300 nm.

The Ultra-violet waves are the ones that have a smaller wavelength than the color violet. They are waves that have a wavelength between 300 nm and around 10 nm. They are a little dangerous to health because they have the capacity to change the DNA of living organisms. In fact if it were not for the fact that the atmosphere absorbs most of the UV radiation that the sun emits the Earth would be barren.

The particles with the smallest wavelength are called gamma radiation, and they do not have a limit on how small the wavelength can be. There is a theoretical limit but then once again it is a theoretical one.
