Bedroom Ceiling Lighting

Lighting info brought to you by LightingShowroom.com

Ceiling lights in the bedroom are really not necessary. Most people use their bedrooms only for sleeping, and if they need any light the bed lamps would generally be ample for it. Yet installing bedroom ceiling lighting is a good idea if only to jazz up the room a bit.

Most decorative items in most rooms, not only bedrooms are limited to the floor and walls. Even here you will rarely find anything that is above head height on the walls which means that one quarter of the room close to the ceiling is generally unused. Bringing this space into the room will give your room a sense of spaciousness.

You don’t need a chandelier for this, but you cannot make do with a simple light too. You need something that will draw the eyes above and the only thing that can do this is something fancy. A really good looking semi flush light with a slag glass shade will be good, or you can go in for a simple three arm semi flush ceiling light.

Of course if you are totally against having bedroom ceiling lights, you can very well go with some kind of decorative items that you can hang from the ceiling which will serve the same purpose. The only problem with this is that this is not only more complicated to install, it is more difficult to maintain than a light.

Plus you do not have to go for a really bright light. For example, even if you have a simple three arm chandelier installed, it is not necessary to put in three 100 watt bulbs, you can put in three 25 watt bulbs which will give you a total output of just 75 watts of light, making sure that the room is pleasantly dim. The only difference will be that the whole room will be included instead of just one portion as is common with table lamps. If you are a little imaginative, you can even install a couple of spotlights pointing up at the ceiling lighting your room with its backwash, while still looking funky and contemporary.

Outdoor Ceiling Lights

Lighting info brought to you by LightingShowroom.com

Outdoor Ceiling Lights

If you are looking for outdoor ceiling lights there are a few things that you need to keep in mind. Since it is a ceiling light you do not have to get an outdoor light at all and can make do with an internal light fixture if you like it better. Outdoor lights tend to be a little simplistic while you may want to have a three arm chandelier. Since it is going to be protected from the weather there is not too much of a problem with doing this.

Where outdoor lights are better than indoor ones is with the light output. They are designed knowing that if they had the same output as indoor lighting systems they really wouldn’t work. For example a simple outdoor pendant light that costs you $50 will have up to three bulbs inside because you need brighter light outside. Because the inside of the home has walls which reflect the light a lower wattage light is more than sufficient; this is however not an option for the outside.

Most people look for outdoor ceiling lights for only one reason and that is to light up the place outside their front door. Every other outside light will either be wall fixtures or lights that are placed outside in the garden. The kind of light obviously has a lot to do with what you want here. For example if you are looking to impress your visitors then a simple ceiling light would really not do. You could go with a simple chandelier or an elaborate three or five arm semi flush ceiling light to give you the desired effect. If on the other hand you want something more subdued and understated, you could either go with a flush mounted or semi-flush ceiling light that is elegantly but expensively designed. Although the light output would not be high – it will spoil the effect, you could install a couple of wall sconces on either side of your door sill or on the lintel and you will have something that is both effective yet very fashionable.

What you do with the light is more important than what kind of light you get. For example you could go with lights incorporated into ceiling fans if you live in hot climates so that people who come to your home will feel a cool draft of air even before they step inside. If you want to be a little different from others you can get a solar powered spotlight and mount it high on your ceiling. You get a 6 foot chord that connects the light and the solar panels so that you can install the panel outside where it will catch the sun and install the light inside. Solar lamps are not too powerful and will be just right for you and since they have the auto on function you don’t even have to bother about switching them on. They will come on as soon as it gets dark and if you are the sort who comes home to a dark house you may want to consider this.

Most outdoor ceiling lights tend to be flush ones and are simple yet nice to look at. They are also a little on the expensive side because you can get a much better looking indoor light for the same price. If you are looking for more options than your local store has or for a good deal so that you can get more than one light, the Internet is your best option. You can look up all the different lights there are and even purchase online if you are not averse to doing so. You need to be wary of scammers though and it is better to stick with the known online stores even if they do not offer as much of a discount as other places.

Flush Mount Ceiling Lights

Lighting info brought to you by LightingShowroom.com

Flush Mount Ceiling Lights

Knowing what kind of lighting to select for your home can be a tough process, most specifically if the space is rather limited. Even though a lot homeowners are opt for a table lamp or floor lamp for their lighting needs, these types of accessories take up space and don’t always provide an appropriate amount of lighting for a room. For this reason, flush mount ceiling lights can be a more appropriate alternative, as these lights are out of the way and provide an adequate amount of lighting. It is a great way to provide lighting with appealing décor without taking up valuable floor space.

Celling light fixtures are a necessity in hallways and entryways. There are many advantages in using these types of lights as they can offer a variety of designs to add to your décor but not overpower it. On the other hand, the key to these fixtures is that they are sometimes better suited to some rooms more than others, so it is significant to use them in the appropriate areas. For instance, an room with low ceilings is not the best choice for semi-flush or pendant lighting while areas that need a good amount of light are the best suited for ceiling fixtures of either flush or semi-flush mount. The bedrooms and bathrooms are good examples where either kind of lighting is suitable. If the ceiling is high enough you could even opt for hanging fixtures like chandeliers or pendant lights.

Flush mounted fixtures are simple to take care of as well as low maintenance given that they are installed on the ceiling. They tend to keep bugs and dust out of the fixture better compared to other semi-flush lighting options. Should the exterior of these lights get covered in dust, you can give them a fast clean with a lint free cloth. The flush mount ceiling light is best for homes that have inadequate space, particularly if you have pets or kids who were prone to dragging on electrical cords.

Another advantage of ceiling lights is the electrical wiring is in the walls, thus these lights do away with floor lamps, cords, and table lamps. They may be turned off and on with the flick of a switch, and you have the choice to hook them up to a dimmer hence you can manage the amount of the lighting. If you need to change out the bulbs, it is done with little difficulty. The cover merely unscrews, and you may change the bulb. You can as well choose for light bulbs that are Eco-friendly which may last longer and uses lesser energy compared to incandescent bulbs. However, on the flip side, incandescent bulbs are reasonably priced and will supply you with ample of hours of lighting.

What people find irresistible about these flush mounted lights is that they are smooth as well as non-obstructive, thus they will tend not to be off-putting from the decorations in the room. Although these ceiling fixtures will not draw people in as a chandelier would, they are a delicate way to improve your existing furnishings while, at the same time, providing sufficient lighting.

They also come in a huge number of styles and designs along with a price to suit any budget.

Ceiling Lighting

Home improvement is something that everyone needs to take time to think, plan and implement. One thing to keep in mind during this process is the overhead lights. Good ceiling lights can enhance your room and decor. The ceiling lights are also useful for providing light in your room. Therefore, it makes sense to pay attention to lighting fixtures that you are planning to buy for your home.

The modern looks of ceiling lighting helps to set a mood that will suit the way of life of its users. These various ceiling lights are not merely used for the lightning purposes but as well as to portray the personality of the home owner.

Fixtures should be situated in a position to provide adequate lighting without being obtrusive. Being that these fixtures are available in a wide range of different sizes, shapes and designs there’s bound to be several that will suit your needs. The biggest may actually be trying to choose from such a wide array.

During the selection of ceiling lighting, one should take into account any special needs. They would include such factors as:

The amount of light needed in the room or area. The effect you are trying to portray. The choice of either direct light or dim light which will be influenced by the previous point.Your budget for the fixtures and their installation. Are there any accessories needed with the lighting to establish the effect you desire?Maintenance factors such as changing bulbs and cleaning.

You can buy an accessory that looks very eye-catching, but it would be of no use if it does not meet your needs. The ceiling light ought to match the general look of the area used to further improve the overall décor. An ill-fitting lighting fixture can ruin the whole effect. You may want to select an indirect light to present a more subdued effect.

When installing ceiling lighting, you should measure the height of the floor up to the fixture. Then only after that you will be capable of selecting the right lighting fixture. If the height is adequate then chandeliers can be used in open areas…they are always an option over tables or other furnishings where people won’t be walking under them. If the height is on the lower side then flush or semi-flush mounted fixtures is the best option.

Installation of a ceiling fixture in the bathroom not only adds attraction to your bathroom, making the space more attractive, but also helps illuminate some areas that are of great significance. As a result some special considerations need to be taken into account. For example in the vanity area you are going to want brighter, indirect lighting to help in applying makeup, shaving and the like. A walk-in shower may require more direct lighting but you may want a subdued effect over the bathtub. There are many ceiling lights that are prepared according to the plan size and the bathroom floor. You may have lighting fixtures in the bath areas with smooth lighting to make a relaxing ambiance.

Factors to Consider Before Buying a Ceiling Fan

Lighting info brought to you by LightingShowroom.com

A fan is a functional and decorative focal point for any room.  Before buying a fan, there are many factors to consider.

Décor: Ceiling fans are available in a wide variety of styles.  Manufacturers have recognized the popularity of fans and have responded with sleek and versatile designs.  Styles run the gamut from rustic, to juvenile, to ultra modern.

Great Lodge Ponderosa 52-Inch Ceiling Fan

Involution Satin Nickel 220 Volt Ceiling Fan with Cherry Walnut Blade

Ceiling Height:  A room with an 8 foot ceiling should have a fan that hangs down no more than seven feet from the ground.  Consider a hugger fan for this application. For higher ceilings, the fan should be placed eight or nine feet from the floor.  The higher the fan, the less air will circulate throughout the room.  Extra downrods are available for most fans up to 72 inches in length.

Concept II Flush 52-Inch Ceiling FanRoom Size: A 52 inch fan is standard and will move enough air to cover 400 feet.   For small bedrooms, nooks or hallways a small fan would be sufficient.  For larger rooms, use either a fan with a larger sweep consider two fans.

California Pewter Energy Star 42-Inch Ceiling FanMaxima Mahogany Blade 72-Inch Ceiling FanFunction:  If you plan to use your ceiling fan all year, make sure the fan has a reverse function.   In the summer, to circulate cool air, the blades should rotate counter clockwise.  In the winter months a clockwise rotation will push warm air downward. Blade pitch, the angle of the blades relative to the fan, is also a consideration when shopping for your fan.  For instance, a fan with a pitch of 15 degrees will move more air than a fan with a pitch of 10 degrees.

Light:  Many fans are light kit adaptable, but will only accept components within the same brand.  Be sure that you light kit is compatible with the fan that you select.  As of 2007, the government has placed wattage restrictions on light kits.  The maximum wattage for a light kit is 190 watts.  Medium base sockets have been replaced by intermediate and candelabra based sockets.  Because of these new restrictions, compact fluorescent light kits are becoming increasingly common.  If you are unsure about using a light kit, one can always be added at a later date if your fan is light kit adaptable.
