Where outdoor lights are better than indoor ones is with the light output. They are designed knowing that if they had the same output as indoor lighting systems they really wouldn’t work. For example a simple outdoor pendant light that costs you $50 will have up to three bulbs inside because you need brighter light outside. Because the inside of the home has walls which reflect the light a lower wattage light is more than sufficient; this is however not an option for the outside.
Most people look for outdoor ceiling lights for only one reason and that is to light up the place outside their front door. Every other outside light will either be wall fixtures or lights that are placed outside in the garden. The kind of light obviously has a lot to do with what you want here. For example if you are looking to impress your visitors then a simple ceiling light would really not do. You could go with a simple chandelier or an elaborate three or five arm semi flush ceiling light to give you the desired effect. If on the other hand you want something more subdued and understated, you could either go with a flush mounted or semi-flush ceiling light that is elegantly but expensively designed. Although the light output would not be high – it will spoil the effect, you could install a couple of wall sconces on either side of your door sill or on the lintel and you will have something that is both effective yet very fashionable.
What you do with the light is more important than what kind of light you get. For example you could go with lights incorporated into ceiling fans if you live in hot climates so that people who come to your home will feel a cool draft of air even before they step inside. If you want to be a little different from others you can get a solar powered spotlight and mount it high on your ceiling. You get a 6 foot chord that connects the light and the solar panels so that you can install the panel outside where it will catch the sun and install the light inside. Solar lamps are not too powerful and will be just right for you and since they have the auto on function you don’t even have to bother about switching them on. They will come on as soon as it gets dark and if you are the sort who comes home to a dark house you may want to consider this.
Most outdoor ceiling lights tend to be flush ones and are simple yet nice to look at. They are also a little on the expensive side because you can get a much better looking indoor light for the same price. If you are looking for more options than your local store has or for a good deal so that you can get more than one light, the Internet is your best option. You can look up all the different lights there are and even purchase online if you are not averse to doing so. You need to be wary of scammers though and it is better to stick with the known online stores even if they do not offer as much of a discount as other places.
