How to install pot lights in 10 easy steps

Before you work with any electrical wiring anywhere in your home be sure to switch of power to that section.

The first thing that you will need to do is trace an outline of the pot light on the part of your home where you want to install it.Drill a hole on the edge of the outline and make sure that there are no electrical wires in the area where you need to cut the hole.If you are going to replace recessed lights in the areas where an existing light is fixed, then you would need to disconnect the wires that connect the old fixture to the junction box. You can do this by simply unscrewing the plastic caps. The next thing you would need to do is cut out new wire to replace the old. So measure out the length from the pot light location to the junction box, adding an extra 12 inches for convenience. You will then need to remove about ¼ inch of insulation from both ends of the wire using wire strippers. Now connect one end of the wire to the junction box using plastic nuts. Place the other end close to the hole, being careful that it does not get cut when you cut the hole.Next make the hole in the ceiling. Now fix the free end of the wire into the junction box present in the pot light by using a screwdriver to keep the wire in place.Fix the light fixture in place and attach the trim using screws or other means based on the type of lighting design that you are using.Add the bulbs and turn on the lights. You now have installed a pot light fixture all on your own.
